All about level progression
The best thing about the last version of Into the vortex was finding a level that felt like a challenge to play. If you got lucky and found a generated level map that had just the right number of dead ends and moves available.
So in this next release I have removed the random showing / hiding of asteroids in favour of using a more maze theory based approach, giving the user a series of dead ends to end up winding down. These numbers of dead ends would be increased according to the difficulty / level reached.
The first few maze sizes (3/4) are still not especially rewarding at this point, but do allow the user to get their head around the concepts, jumping into larger grid sizes leaves everyone feeling lost.
Beyond that the levels are starting to feel more like a challenge (more often than not), and I’ve replaced the high score dynamic with a star collection system, allowing you to buy more attempts to reach a higher level by completing the mazes in as few attempts as possible.
I have uploaded a new version of both web and android but I really would recommend the android version for the swipe functionality. Also worth mentioning that on the map reveals you can scroll around the cube to see in more detail the route taken.
